This is the third version of this post I’ve started because the tone of both drafts just didn’t feel right. Considering all the bullshit we’ve been dealing with RE: ICE raids on the community, I almost decided to forget about sharing in general. But you know what? Fuck that. As a proud Chicano, I realized this is exactly the time to share some photos of the beautiful place that is Mexico City, all its rich culture, beautiful people, vibrant modern lifestyle, and the experience we had as first time visitors to the capital of the country our families came from.
We arrived in Mexico City early Sunday morning - much earlier than the city was ready for us, as all the cafes and restaurants were still closed, as was our hotel. So, carry on luggage in hand, we took in what we could of the early sunlight in La Condesa streaming through the trees. Spoiler alert, it was gorgeous.
We found a spot, had a coffee, and waited for the green light to drop our bags for the day.
Day one here took us from park to park, each greener than the next, until we discovered the dog park. Dogs are going to play a big role over the next few days, and this was our first encounter with the local four-legged crowd.
Speaking of dogs, we wrapped up our day at a dog themed brewery, Guau Tap, in San Rafael. Cold beer, warm and welcoming staff, and, yes, some dogs were hanging out. Dogs.
After we had our fill of pints and pups for the time being, we walked back to our hotel, checked in, and called it a day. Redeye flights are no joke.
These are only a handful of photos from day 1 of our trip.
